Hold the launcher level. Nine dead launches out of ten are a tilted launcher, not a tired top: leave at an angle and the Nado lands on the edge of its tip and scrubs the spin off immediately.

Let the loser of the round launch second next time. The second top into the dish lands on a moving target and that evens out a mismatch.
